Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of this site?
The goal of this web site is to facilitate communication between teachers, students, and parents. The class site is a valuable tool that should be used in addition to the students' agenda book. This site is not intended to replace the agenda book.
How often will this site be updated?
I intend to update this site each day by 5:00 PM. However, due to circumstances outside my control, this may not always be possible. Please refer to your child's agenda book for the most up to date information.
What is the best way to contact you?
Due to the limited number of phones in the building, e-mail is the best way to contact me. In the top right corner of my home page I have included an e-mail link. Simply click on the icon and type your e-mail. However, if you would rather speak to me on the phone, the number to the main office is 301-601-4350.
What should I do if my child is absent?
If your child is unable to attend school, please call the main office. When your child returns to school please provide a note which explains the reason for their absence. In addition, remind your child to check their mail box for any missing and/or late work. It is your child's responsibility to make up their work.
How are grades determined? Are reassessments given?
In a standards-based grading and reporting system, grades reflect what students know and can do in relation to grade-level or course expectations while reflecting academic achievement only. Report card grades summarize multiple measures of tasks or assessments during a marking period. These tasks/assessments may take different forms including tests, projects, reports, teacher observation, discussions, and classwork/homework that assess mastery. Reassessments will be used to reassess specific curricular objectives, but is not a reassessment of a specific grade. Reassessment grades do not replace original grades, but instead, provide students with additional opportunities to master grade or course expectations. Reassessments may take multiple and varied forms, and are a combination of multiple measures that may be offered throughout an entire academic quarter, not necessarily immediately following original assessment.
Can extra credit be turned in to improve a grade?
Although I appreciate the extra effort, extra credit is not accepted. According to the MCPS Standards Based Grading and Reporting policy, extra credit and bonus points will not be used to help students get a better grade.
What does One Day or No Way Mean?
Students are expected to turn in all assignments by their due date. If they do not turn in their assignment on the date that it is due, then they will have one additional day to complete the assignment. The deadline for all assignments are one day beyond the assignment's due date. Work will not be graded beyond the deadline.
Will turning in work late hurt a grade?
Yes, according to the MCPS Standards Based Grading and Reporting policy, turning in work late or not at all can lower a grade.
What is a Take Home Folder?
Take Home Folders are folders that are sent home every Friday. The bulk of all graded work will be sent home every Friday in these folders. In addition to graded work, important hand-outs, permission slips, late work slips, and other forms will go home. Please review these papers with your child and sign their folder. Please remind your child to return their folder by Monday morning.
