In class we have been exploring several websites designed to show how the concepts associated with proportional reasoning are related to “real life”. Not only are these sites educationally beneficial for students of the Math 7 curriculum, they hope to answer the typical student question of, “When am I ever going to use this stuff?” With authentic daily interactions, students are made aware of how often they actually engage in mathematical reasoning. I especially like a site called Math Playground since it offers many connections and extensions. Parents and students are encouraged to explore the site, have fun, and see how the curricular objectives of Math 7 connect to the “real world”.

AuthorMy name is Mr. Bliven and I have been teaching at Matsunaga for 13 years. I love teaching and view education as a lifelong journey. Although I already hold several graduate degrees from McDaniel College and Johns Hopkins, I was thrilled to have recently completed my graduate certificate in technology integration from the University of Florida. I plan to continue my graduate studies and I am looking forward to using the strategies I learn with my students. Archives
