What an exciting time to be a student in the state of Maryland. We are less than three weeks away from the start of the Maryland School Assessments, MSAs! Each year students are granted the opportunity to show the nation just how brilliant they are. I have no doubt that all students, especially Matsunaga students, will shine on the assessment and prove that we have…. As has become obvious to everyone, MCPS and the entire D.C. Metro region has seen the full force of the Blizzard of 2010! Having had to already delay, reschedule, or cancel many school events, MCPS will continue to feel the effects of these storms for weeks to come. Please be reassured that as soon as final decisions regarding scheduling changes and alterations for assignment deadlines have been made, the information will be communicated to students, parents, and the community.
TOOLS TO USE: MCPS has made terrific strides in facilitating the dispersal of weather related emergency based decisions. Everything from text messages, emails, and cable news programs work in coordinated efforts to keep the community informed of emergency decisions as they are made. Please visit the How to Receive MCPS Emergency Information site to subscribe to the various automated notification systems. As many of you have recently discovered, we have made a significant change in the way our classroom reports information to students, parents, and the community. I am excited to say that we have moved our class website to http://bliven.weebly.com. The new web site offers many exciting improvements that were not possible on the older site. I hope that you check back frequently to view the updates and see how our new site evolves to meet the needs of our learning community. Feature of the Week: RSS feeds! RSS feeds stands for Real Simple Syndication and the function enables you to have all updated content sent directly to you. Think of it as accessing a syndicated radio show that constantly updates you of the changes to your favorite blogs. Gone are the days of having to check back to each individual blog to see what has changed. Instead, let the feed reader do the process for you. There are many feed reading programs available, but I have found Google Reader to be a simple program to use. To get started, take a tour of the Google Reader and then click on the RSS feed button to the right. Welcome to a brave new techno-world. |
AuthorMy name is Mr. Bliven and I have been teaching at Matsunaga for 13 years. I love teaching and view education as a lifelong journey. Although I already hold several graduate degrees from McDaniel College and Johns Hopkins, I was thrilled to have recently completed my graduate certificate in technology integration from the University of Florida. I plan to continue my graduate studies and I am looking forward to using the strategies that I learn with my students. Archives
