To help honor the men and women who have served our nation, gave so much, and asked so little, we would like to share several poems crafted by students in the fifth grade. Although these poems were crafted in response to Veterans Day, their messages are just as applicable, powerful, and appropriate for this reverent day.
Today, as described by Franklin Roosevelt, is a day that will live in infamy. On December 7, 1941, the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor. During the ensuing naval and aerial battle, thousands of American servicemen gave their lives in defense of our great nation. Despite the losses, our servicemen and women did not back down. Although this was a fight we did not expect, and an eventual war we did not seek, our nation’s military stood against tyranny and preserved the individual freedoms for millions of people throughout the world. Freedom was victorious due to the selfless sacrifices of our men and women of the United States military.
To help honor the men and women who have served our nation, gave so much, and asked so little, we would like to share several poems crafted by students in the fifth grade. Although these poems were crafted in response to Veterans Day, their messages are just as applicable, powerful, and appropriate for this reverent day.

AuthorMy name is Mr. Bliven and I have been teaching at Matsunaga for 13 years. I love teaching and view education as a lifelong journey. Although I already hold several graduate degrees from McDaniel College and Johns Hopkins, I was thrilled to have recently completed my graduate certificate in technology integration from the University of Florida. I plan to continue my graduate studies and I am looking forward to using the strategies that I learn with my students. Archives
