Congratulations to the start of a new school year! I am so excited that you have joined the 5th grade and are about to undertake the most exciting year of your elementary school career. Your 5th grade year is a time to expand your educational goals and to grow as a person. In the end, your job is to become prepared for middle school while always striving to do your best. My job is to support you in achieving this goal. However, when we work together, both of our jobs become more managable and lead to more meaningful results. Overall, remember on thing; you can change the world. So, make the change that you want to see. I believe in you! Students have been working hard to learn the proper format for writing a persuasive essay. At first, the thought of writing a five paragraph essay seems impossible. However, when the process is broken down into manageable components, students realize that they are fully capable of achieving success. Please use the videos below to review the process and to improve written responses. Enjoy! Students of all ages are starting to feel the effects of the sudden changes in temperature. Within the classroom, sneezing, coughing, and colds seem to be just as common as books, pencils, and papers. The video linked to this blog gives a humorous account of why proper sneezing techniques are so important. As great as the video is, it does not address the use of tissues. Students at Matsunaga are encouraged to sneeze into their elbows just like the video shows, but also to use tissues when necessary. Tissues should then be thrown out, not recycled, and students are to use hand sanitizer.
These proper hygiene techniques keep students healthy and in the classroom. And if they are in the classroom, they can learn! However, our classroom is critically low on tissues and hand sanitizer. If at all possible, our class would greatly appreciate any classroom tissue or hand sanitizer donations. With your help, we can transform the title of this blog to Tis’ the Season to be Learning….. not Sneezing. There is an error in viewing this video. For the first 4 minutes and 57 seconds, the video is frozen while the audio continues to play. After this time, the video picks up and continues to play properly. Sorry for the error with the upload, but I hope that you still benefit from being able to review the concepts.

AuthorMy name is Mr. Bliven and I have been teaching at Matsunaga for 13 years. I love teaching and view education as a lifelong journey. Although I already hold several graduate degrees from McDaniel College and Johns Hopkins, I was thrilled to have recently completed my graduate certificate in technology integration from the University of Florida. I plan to continue my graduate studies and I am looking forward to using the strategies that I learn with my students. Archives
